It is not a secret that the United States is one of the most sought-after countries to immigrate from anywhere on this planet, especially critical to Latin America nations south of the US border. “Down Mexico way,” as the song states. 

But what is the principal cause for this unregulated immigration phenomenon? Notwithstanding, undocumented workers taking an  enormous risk of being killed, raped, kidnaped, the fleeing continues.  A costly undertaking for poor families to spend thousands of dollars to reach their destiny.

The answers are simple to deduce: first is the individual economic opportunities found “easily” in the United States and second is the escaping away from high crime gangs in these countries. 

Then, you probably ask yourself, “but why is it that the local governments are not doing anything to minimize poverty and lack of economic growth, or increase individual improvement opportunities? Oh! And fight crime?” Well, the answer can be summarized in one simple  political concept: Corruption in runaway mode. 

The complicated solutions for these conundrums are being addressed by President Bukele, and the Legislative Assembly (Congress). Although changing at a very rapid rate, the well intentioned effects of removing corruption will take years to benefit the population. At this point is where the US involvement should assist in this wonderful reachable goal.

However, the sad fact is that the current USA government does not help one bit to alleviate these problems, instead promoting protests and funding the political opposition. We have a clear and concise example in El Salvador’s current political evolution. Why is the United States demonstrating concerns over democracy, and threatening economic and social upheaval? 

On February 3 2019, the Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, was elected in a single electoral round, with 53% of total votes . Very unexpected because he was not running under any of the dominating left or right political parties that have ruled the country over the last 30 years.

The Supreme Electoral Tribunal had already considered a second electoral round for the presidency, but it was not necessary. Bukele won in the first round with a plural strong majority of votes. He took all the 14 political departments (states) and he obtained more votes than the two major parties combined.

Bukele was able to defeat the right, and left political wings in a single swipe, and this feat is unique in universal world history. Now, it seems as if the US does not agree with any democratic results, unless their ‘old friends’ win the elections. What do you think? Please comment.
